About us, how it all started…

We are a German (Meike) / Dutch (Jay) couple who met in Scotland in the 90’s and soon afterwards moved to Athens. After some years we moved to Rhodes where Meike worked as a teacher and Jay as a sound engineer.

When as a result of the financial crisis there was no more work in sound engineering on the island, we looked for other ways to earn an income. When the property next to our house came up for sale, we decided to try our hand at tourism. After 4 years of renovation (as we did most of the planning and work ourselves, it took a bit longer than planned), Helios Garden was ready to receive guests in 2017.

Each of our three lovingly restored apartments is a clever mixture of the contemporary alongside Hellenistic, Byzantine, Medieval and Ottoman styles that pay tribute to the UNESCO World Heritage Medieval city.

After more than 20 years in the Old Town of Rhodes we are still fascinated with the history, culture and nature of this island and we look forward to sharing our enthusiasm with you.
